I haven’t always been quite so civic-minded. I never voted in local elections because — real talk — I was too lazy to inform myself on the candidates’ positions and thus worried that my vote, which was essentially an uneducated guess, would do more harm than good. But with our friend and neighbor, fireman Mike Detoy in the running, I’m determined to change my slacker-ly ways. In many ways, local government impacts our daily lives far more than the federal government does. (Schools! Sewers! Garbage collection!)
